Pabna’s first minister Mirza Abdul Halim is no more

Former state minister and former BNP joint secretary general Mirza Abdul Halim has passed away. (Inna lillahi wa inna ilahi rajiun).

Mirza Abdul Halim breathed his last at his residence in Kaitula village in the historic Joynagar of Bera police station in Pabna district, his birthplace. He was 93 years old. Mirza Halim is survived by two sons and a daughter.

Mirza Abdul Halim, a close associate of BNP founder and former President Ziaur Rahman, was elected Member of Parliament for the then Pabna-12 (Sadar) constituency. He served as the Minister of State for Shipping in Ziaur Rahman’s cabinet from November 24, 1989 to November 24, 1981.

He was the first minister of Pabna district. Mirza Abdul Halim was beloved by the oppressed public leader Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani.


Mirza Halim had a good reputation as a popular football player. He played for the Victoria Club. BNP standing committee members Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, vice-chairman Barkat Ullah Bulu, Mohammad Shahjahan and BNP chairperson’s special assistant Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas have expressed their condolences over his death.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Deputy Commissioner of Police Sudip Kumar Chakraborty has been appointed as the new Superintendent of Police in Bogra.

Bogra Additional Superintendent of Police Ali Haider Chowdhury has confirmed that the current Superintendent of Police Ali Ashraf Bhuiyan has been transferred as the Deputy Commissioner of Police of Barisal Metropolitan Police.

The matter was informed in a circular signed by Deputy Secretary Dhananjay Das on Sunday. A total of nine police officers were transferred in this order.
